Fairy Bread

23 08 2009

If I have learned anything about Aussies since moving here, it is that they love their sweets. Last week at work I was introduced to yet another strange Australian delicacy: Fairy Bread. It is nothing more than white bread, butter and sprinkles but apparently is the highlight of many-a childhood. We must have been quite a sight in the lunch room that day giggling like children over this completely unhealthy treat!

Cylon Centurion Hat

After months of slow progress I finally finished knitting a Battlestar Galactica themed Cylon Centurion hat. The ultimate in geeky artcrafts!

I haven’t yet decided what my next project will be. The weather is warming up which makes it difficult to think about knitted goods. However, Fiona brought me an ingenious birthday gift that has me keen to start something new in time for my trip to Brisbane next week. Interchangeable knitting needles that are airline approved! Mom, I thought you might be interested in these…

The Latest Addition to my Pentax Family!

22 08 2009

After enduring yet another vacation wrought with frustration due to ongoing issues with my digital SLR I decided to take the plunge. Not only did I ship the *ist away to have the sensor cleaned, I also invested in a new camera. The latest addition to my little Pentax family is due for delivery some time next week.

Pentax K7

This camera is a beauty.

Since getting the *ist in early 2005 I have been compiling a wish-list of features for my next purchase. For instance:

  • Rechargeable Battery
  • Weather-proofing
  • Dust-resistant Sensor
  • Image Stabilisation
  • Live View
  • Cold Resistant
  • Built-in Level

Yes I ask a lot of a camera.  And I am hard on electronics. I figured it would be a tall task to satisfy my wishes and honestly didn’t expect to find one that had all these features. Initially I was thinking of making the move to a Nikon as Pentax didn’t appear to have any cameras in the advanced amateur/semi-pro range that would satisfy my needs. Fortunately the Pentax K-7 was released last month and has everything I want and more. Which means I get to stick with the brand I love and don’t have to invest in a slew of new lenses. It’s a win-win situation!
