The Greatest Great Lake

29 03 2009

On Friday night I sat down and watched ‘Superior: Under the Shadow of the Gods’ (thanks Fiona!) to try appease my recent bout of homesickness.

Superior: Under the Shadow of the Gods

But it only made things worse. There is something magical about that lake. No matter where I go or what I do, all I want is to go back to northwestern Ontario, sit on Superior’s shores and bask in her magnificence. For many years I have wanted to write a book but couldn’t decide on a subject. In a moment of brilliance on Friday I realized that Lake Superior had to be my subject. I am still contemplating an outline, but finally feel like I have found my inspiration. I shall keep you posted.

In other news, Phil and I will be making the trek back to Marathon in July 2010. I am already counting the days! Holly and Jim recently got engaged and have tentatively set a date. It will be a bit of a world tour for us that summer as we were planning to go to South Africa for the World Cup in June/July as well. Our calendar is already filling up. Before we know it, we will be moving home!

Congrats

Congratulations to Kirsten and the entire Thomson clan on the arrival of little Kallum!

Earth Hour 2009

28 03 2009

Earth Hour 2009 is upon us. Phil and I just showed our support for this important cause by turning off the lights, television and computers and enjoying a peaceful hour reflecting on our consumptive ways under the brilliant southern hemisphere stars. I urge others to do the same. When 8:30pm rolls around, show your support by unplugging for just one hour. If you need convincing, check out the official Earth Hour video below, backed by a lovely song by Melbourne band Augie March.
