Against Me!

30 04 2008

Thanks to Phil’s ingenuity, Photoshop is working on my laptop again. As promised, here are some of my favourite shots from the Against Me! show on Saturday:

Tropical Foliage

30 04 2008

One of the benefits of living in a country like Australia is being exposed to some very unique vegetation that I’ve never seen before. Back in March I was pleased to discover a Bird of Paradise plant in our backyard. I clipped a couple of flowers and they lasted for a solid three weeks in a vase. The plant continues to flower shamelessly. It’s unfortunate the days are getting shorter and colder as I would love to sit outside and enjoy them more. Beautiful, no?

Kookaburra

30 04 2008

Kookaburras have to be the funniest birds alive. Waking up to the riotous laughter of these little fellows was a pleasant surprise for me while we were camping at Bents Basin. It’s impossible for me to not laugh with them.

Oh. Am I the only Canadian kid that knows the old ‘Kookaburra’ song? Phil was baffled when I mentioned it.

‘Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
That’s not a monkey that’s me

Kookaburra sits on a rusty nail
Gets a boo-boo in his tail
Cry, Kookaburra! Cry, kookaburra!
Oh how life can be’
